Virat and Anushka Wed, Panda Creates Toilet Paper, Burger King Fined for Child Labour, Camel Hospital Opens in Dubai, and Tribals Show the Way

Over 18-odd tribal couples kissed in the presence of thousands of people in Dumaria village, in Jharkhand, in a never-seen-before competition. Simon Marandi, a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha legislator, who organised the competition, said it was an initiative to check growing cases of divorces and differences between couples. Is there a lesson for rest of India in it, asks Shail, in the regular column, reviewing the news last week, in verse, exclusively in Different Truths.

Virat and Anushka Wed

Sports and cinema unite

in holy matrimony once again;

history repeats, celebrities

find common interests in bat and ball,

acting roles and arc lights.

Love sprouts on field, in ads,

in parties filled with glamour sans break-pads.

Their land of birth too boring a place to wed

so groom and bride rush to Italy;

Don’t you get it? It’s fashionable silly!

Back in India for a reception

the Prime Minister visits to give his congratulations.

Watch out for other receptions though;

the couple is not ordinary dough.

Raking up another controversy

of the big fat wedding, lack of patriotism.

Who cares? Fans are happy with this alluring prism.

Panda Creates Toilet Paper

Searching for that toilet paper, are you?

China, the low price, a long-running trader has it for you.

The next time you use toilet paper

you might just be using panda poop

‘cos that’s where it comes in a loop.

Shocked? Surprised? Don’t be.

Nothing is impossible for China lea

that weaves something out of nothing-

a lesson the world needs to learn

‘use your brain, that way it’s faster to earn.’

Burger King Fined for Child Labour

Never thought it would exist abroad

or, if it did a minuscule section

but (in)famous Burger King was hurled the accusation

of using minors to work in their restaurants

to dish out burgers and play major truants.

Not one but above 800 children tortured says the report;

No wonder then, a whopping fine is what was ruled by the court.

Massachusetts Burger King king no more

as it breaks child labour laws

and is rightly shown the door.

Camel Hospital Opens in Dubai

Dubai Camel Hospital, a state of art

as technology marries tradition;

Camels treated like patients, a compassionate mission

where rehabilitation, operating theatres exist every season.

What more can this patient animal want

as it is treated on par with humans

that make use of it everywhere;

a pleasure to know that somewhere for animals

life is nondiscriminatory and fair.

Exorbitant the place is without a doubt.

But, nothing lesser can be expected

from the land of sheiks, oil sprout.

Tribals Show the Way

Too many divorces, separation-

differences breaking up marriages

prompt Dumaria village in Jharkhand

to conduct a kissing competition

for couples to literally kiss and make up.

What an innovative way to fill up gaps, cracks

that crawl into a marriage over the years.

Hats off to this land of tribals

which beliefs in cementing relationships

instead of breaking them at the drop of a pin.

Wonder if the extremists will call this ‘sin!’
