Three Ways to Avoid Computer Vision Syndrome

Ritambhara cautions us against the growing menace of computer vision syndrome. Here are tips to avoid it, exclusively for Different Truths.

With our increased affinity towards screens be it computer, TV laptop or cell phone screens, we are getting more prone to Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). Eye strain and other vision-related bothersome conditions have become a major issue too since all of us are fully dependent on the computers for our work. These conditions not only have detrimental effects on our health, but also induce inefficiency at the workplace. Let’s have a look at three ways we can help ourselves with healthy eyes.

We are getting more prone to Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). Eye strain and other vision-related bothersome conditions have become a major issue

1.     Optimum Lighting

Whether you are watching television, working on your computer or using your cell phone, make sure there is proper lighting i.e. it should neither be excessively bright as the harsh one penetrating through your window or the interior lighting nor it should be too dim. It is also advisable to go for an anti-glare screen for the computers and eyeglasses with anti-reflective coasting. Also, consider adjusting the display settings of your computer. The brightness of the display should be the same as the brightness of the surroundings. The

text size and contrast too should be comfortable. Black font colour on a white background should preferably be used.

2.   Frequent Breaks

It is advisable to take frequent breaks when working on your computer. This would help in relieving the eye strain, neck, shoulder and back pain. Try to take mini breaks every hour. If you cannot leave your desk, just try to relax by closing your eyes and while typing avoid glare at the screen as much as possible.

Take frequent breaks when working on your computer.

3.   Eye Exercises

There are many exercises of short duration which you can follow while working on the computer. For instance, you can follow the 20-20-20 rule. Look away at a distance of 20 feet for 20 seconds and repeat this after every 20 minutes. This would relax the eye muscles and ease your eye strain. Also, don’t forget to blink your eyes frequently to avoid dry eyes.
