Three Ways Cinnamon Facilitates Weight Loss

Ritambhara tells us about the health benefits of cinnamon, in the weekly column, exclusively in Different Truths.

Weight loss is supposedly the most talked about topic nowadays as obesity is linked to a multitude of diseases. People are ready to follow anything from exercise to dieting to having super/miracle foods. But, in actuality, the best way to shed those extra calories and lead a healthy life is to follow a balanced-diet approach and exercise regularly. In fact, there is no magic that can work overnight and help you achieve your ideal weight. Nonetheless, there are certain herbs or spices that are instrumental in maintaining a flawless body. Moreover, these herbs and spices have no side effects and have been recognised by the food drug administration as safe for human consumption.  One such spice commonly found in our kitchen is cinnamon. One can safely use this as part of their diet in their routine meals by simply sprinkling a teaspoon on salads, oatmeal, cooked vegetable servings, tea, coffee, juices, shakes, etc., in fact with anything one consumes. It can also be added with honey in lukewarm water and drunk like a tea.

Below are the three benefits of including cinnamon in your diet.

  1. Helps Vanquish Appetite and Reduces Belly Fat

Abdominal fat is something we all struggle with while aiming to attain that perfect figure. If you consider consumption of cinnamon, you are sure to lose that ugly body fat, which not only is ugly but has a more far-reaching effect on the other vital organs it surrounds. So, reducing that belly fat is highly recommendable. Also, taking cinnamon in your diet would make your stomach feel full. This certainly is a blessing as its sweetness alleviates the sugar cravings and fulfills your satiety.

  1. Helps Maintain Ideal Blood Sugar and Insulin Levels

Including cinnamon in your diet would help you regulate the sugar and insulin levels and inhibits excessive fat build up. Also, maintaining that ideal blood sugar level is also significant for maintaining the ideal body weight. You can easily do away with those spikes in your blood sugar levels by simply making it a point to add lower glycaemic foods like cinnamon.

  1. Helps in Lowering Cholesterol Levels and Boosting Metabolism

Cinnamon has the property to change the metabolism of sugar and carbohydrates and lower the levels of bad cholesterol, which in turn contributes to a healthy heart. The increase in metabolic rate means burning calories and eventually weight loss.

One of the best things about cinnamon is that it is one of the readily available spices in the kitchen and has no side effects. So, why not consider it (give it a try) by the following moderation as the key.
