The Struggles of People and not Courts of Law can Give Relief from Government Corruption

Judge O.P. Saini blamed the prosecution of being directionless and diffident in the 2G Scam case. He observed that the prosecutors were not willing to pursue even the pleas made before the Court, witnesses contradicted in their testimonies. Here’s a report for Different Truths.

A mass meeting held yesterday at Ghoorpur, Allahabad discussed the acquittal of all the accused in the 2G scam case by a Special CBI Court. The issue of ruling classes having again used the judiciary as a laundry to clean their dirt of corruption and ill deeds was discussed at length, stated a media release.

Judge O.P. Saini blamed the prosecution of being directionless and diffident. He observed that the prosecutors were not willing to pursue even the pleas made before the Court, witnesses contradicted in their testimonies what they had said in their respective statements and no legally admissible evidence was produced. This proves that the government and its ‘caged parrot’ CBI made sure that no case is made out against the accused, that too when the investigation was supervised by the Supreme Court.

The latter part of the trial was held while Modi government has been in power and obviously, the CBI has acted on its directions. It is a matter of speculation whether this was a payback to the UPA for ‘exoneration’ of Modi and Shah in the fake encounter cases of Gujarat or whether Tamil Nadu politics influenced them or they were obliging the corporate world involved in that loot. After Nira Radia tapes exposure, the corporate and the media controlled by them had run a determined campaign, Vibrant Gujarat, Gujarat Model, in bringing the Modi government to power and the government knows their importance, it was informed.

Besides acquitting all the accused, the Judge has gone to the extent of claiming that there was no scam. He has ignored what was already on record- change in the date and giving of only an hour for submitting drafts, besides the Rs. 200 crore given to Kaliangar TV by those linked to Swan, etc. These undisputed facts were brushed aside saying they pertained to policy, not corruption. The judge actually went ahead to whitewash the whole crime and he was not helpless.

The country has been seeing widespread corruption by the government machinery – in harassing and fleecing money from the people. This corruption is along with a collusive corruption by foreign and domestic corporates and officials to loot and plunder the resources of the country. Only a determined peoples’ movement against corruption and extortion, loot, and plunder, linked to struggles of peasants, workers, and other sections can provide some relief, added the media release.
