The Power of Belief

Sarba looks at 2020, a difficult year, that is about to end. She offers hope in despondency. An exclusive for Different Truths.

The year 2020 has been a difficult year for all of us in different ways.

This year has tested us on all fronts in life. Be it the uncertainty over health, finances, or even the sheer independence of traveling anywhere we wanted to, this year has urged us to cherish the things we always took for granted.

With life in general, we sometimes have to face personal catastrophes that can shake the core of our existence. Sometimes it could be the death of a loved one, making us traumatic enough to remove our belief that we deserve something good.

Sometimes it could be separation from people whom we loved with our whole heart at a certain point of time. The horror of the denial of their love makes us seethe, painfully in bitter tears that we shed, feeling that we are all alone, losing the belief that we can be capable of loving again.

Yet, sometimes it could be our own failing health, where we are suddenly diagnosed by a terrible disorder, or a loved one goes through an ailment, something that makes us question with the depth of grief, “Why me?” Our belief is shattered and we feel lost.

When my dear grandmother passed away due to a sudden heart attack, the difficult financial times during my teenage years, or even the constant state of concern that I have for the health and safety of my loved ones, thousands of miles apart during the pandemic, I have repeatedly felt lost and shrouded in negative emotions.

Yet surprisingly, time and again, after going to sleep in tears, I have never lost hope. I have never given on myself or my life and most importantly, I have never given up on the supreme soul, the Almighty.

I have a belief, a belief stronger than anything else, a belief that whatever will happen to me, will happen to help me grow in my journey as a human being.

My grandmother’s sudden death taught me the importance to love and cherish the people around me with my whole heart, the difficult financial times taught me the life skills of valuing what I had and being grateful for it, this global pandemic has helped me be more grateful than ever for the good health of me and my loved ones, for food on the table and for the ability to breathe without a ventilator.

So, dear reader, as you are reading this, I offer a part of my heart to you for bravely facing all the mighty struggles of your life.

I want to wipe all the warm tears you may have shed in loneliness and helplessness.

I urge you for one last thing: never give up on the belief that something good is waiting for you, no matter what.

You are not alone, you are not weak, you are loved and you are as powerful as your beliefs.

You shall overcome all the blows, this testing time shall pass, your wounds will heal and you will be ready to shine again, just let the power of belief be alive in you always!
