That Glistening Edge

A poignant surreal poem, by Laksmisree, exclusively for Different Truths

The veiled hue of my organza ghunghat
The muted sheen of my nail enamels,
My lip gloss, the muffled glitz of a caked make-up
No longer lure me to the shadowy
enclave of fraudulent dreams …

My sharp, kohled eyes have dimmed
with the shades of life
Now embedded in the hallowed hues of the blues,
greens and whites of transcendence
While the soft scents of my bosom rise
like the smoky spirals of holy incense,
The distant under tonal rhapsodies of the hills,
skies, rivers, and cascades
Resonate with my tinkering anklets tuned
to that unknown drum and lyre
Playing beyond evanescence
And my dark, cloudy curls tonsured
into gleeful waves to embrace
This new life of explosion, expansion, vision

Your sapphire skies, emerald seas,
carnelian horizon, ruby rose-love
Iridescent butterflies, energising breeze,
Aromatic flowers, gleaming glow-worms
Circulate,
Activate,
Simulate
On the periphery of the penultimate zone
Hovering around that pivotal aura I search for
Far away from shrines
From prayer
From faith
From benediction
From hope
From hopelessness
From delusion.

The pink horizon stretches out
To the thin films of the deepening night,
The hide and seek baby sunrays peep
At that glistening edge:
I wait while life goes on …
I wait still, as always, for the answer
As always, one thumb away from my clutch.
