Tanumita Chakraborty: Never Say Die in Sports and Business!

Palash profiles Tanumita, a promising kabaddi player. She had to give up the sport for lack of support. Now, she is into an online business. Her killer instinct is still alive. An exclusive for Different Truths.

The spirit of sports never lets a person give up. It teaches you to try excelling in any field. Irrespective of the fact you may not shine in the field, you try out in any arena. Once a district-level kabaddi defender, Tanumita Chakraborty, whose defence skills helped her a place in the district girls’ team Nadia win trophies. She did excel in her school team in class 11 girls kabaddi team. She being an all-rounder helped her school win the Inter-schoolgirls’ kabaddi trophy and bagged her place in the district team of Nadia. Her excellent tackles, locks and grips have been her main strength. However, after some time her family did not allow her to play further and now, she is married and is handling her own online business.

Apart from being a kabaddi girl, she did well in her studies.

Apart from being a kabaddi girl she did well in studies. In Madyamik (high school) and higher secondary level she secured more than 75 percent. She used to be an all-rounder. Being good in sports and studies is a rare talent. In her school, her teachers loved her for this. At some point of time people, who are into sports and games, studies are somehow secondary, but she maintained a good balance.

But in kabaddi her locks are inescapable. She trapped numerous raiders in her grips making opponent teams point-scoring raider girl helpless captive with a smiling face.  The theory is simple, it is a psychology to focus on the opposing team’s best raider. If you capture the raider, who is best, the morale of the opponent team goes down. They are already on the backfoot. Secondly, if you capture the same raider twice in the raid, the raider loses self-confidence of being tied by the same stopper. Then, she cannot play with full confidence.  The rest of the team crumbles slowly.  A kabaddi stopper, she loves speed, flexibility, and strength. It needs to be done fast before the raider girl understands what has happened. Tanumita grips the opponent girl’s waist with her arms and tries dragging them on the opposite side of the line and pinning them to the ground. Now, if the raider tries to touch the line in between the line and raider there is Tanumita s body. So no chance to touch the line. Secure grip and helplessness.

Being a defender, it is a treat to capture the opponent team’s girl and secure points.

Other than that, her good ankle lock and neck hug on the opponent pays dividends. It is a common scene to see the opponent trapped helplessly in her grip, struggling. Being a defender, it is a treat to capture the opponent team’s girl and secure points. In a neck hug, she grips the opponent’s neck and locks a leg in her arms and legs combined. The lock is strange, awkward and the opponent is trapped, humiliated, and is helpless.  Also, as a raider, Tanumita is a lethal weapon.  These skills bagged her way to the district girls’ team. But after that, unfortunately, her family did not support her much. She was somehow forced to leave the sports.

Tanumita is now an online business owner of garments. She loves fitness and tries to maintain herself. Being a mother and a wife, she still wants to be successful but in a different arena. The spirit is active in her and she never gives up. Once you are in sports, it teaches you to nurture an attitude not to give up. As a defender, she made the opponent give up on trying to escape and surrender. But she never surrendered a point, while being a raider. This spirit is applicable in any profession.
