Stock Market

A tongue-in-cheek poem about Elsy, where love is commerce, exclusively for Different Truths.

She invested all her love
in that reputed stock
and sadly learned
that all was at stake.

Rich were the deposits,
not so the returns.

Sandwiched between
the bulls and bears
she could barely breathe
and lost her sleep.

Finally, she turned
to wingless words
breathing her grief out
for ease and peace.

Lo! Words turned winged,
and high up soared,
hatching poesy chicks
that crooned her to sleep.

She too flapped wings,
and nestled close to the chicks,
freeing herself for good
from bulls and bears!
