Workers campaigned against these goonda tactics led by SO Ghoorpur and demanded his suspension. They also demanded seizure of the two tractors which had been caught by the workers illegally lifting dry sand. CO Karchana has ensured registration of all cases but has carefully avoided this case as their own illegal interest is involved in saving these tractors. Led by AIKMS they also campaigned for getting sand mining restarted to ensure livelihood to workers, demanding registration of boats and issue of permits to boat owners under Chapter 6 of UP Minor Minerals (Concession) Rules 1963. They said administration’s argument of High Court ban is wrong as the Hon’ble HC has not banned Permits. It has only banned mining by syndicates, an issue of permits on old leases and non-implementation of the lease conditions set out by the Supreme Court. Here’s a report in Different Truths.
