Nun and Bishop Joke is on the State, Blushing Law Keeps Looking the Other Way

The devil lacks predictability. Satan describes himself often and then he could be Asaram Bapu or Bishop Franco. Both religious frauds who used their religion-endowed family jewels to force disciples of God to surrender the hymen to high men. Asaram got his comeuppance but will Bishop Franco Mulakkal? The 44-year-old rape survivor nun has knocked on every door, but all in vain. A report for Different Truths.

Those who have read or heard of the ‘Nun and the Bus Driver’ joke will know it is impossible to get a nun to “lie down in bed” with anyone unless it’s with God ‘himself’. Now, we know those who claim proximity to god, like bishops of the Catholic Church, take advantage of the nun’s weakness for God to get her between bed-sheets.

And there are many ‘nun’ movies, including ‘Nun and The Bandit’ and ‘Nun and Valak’. Released last week was ‘The Nun’, a horror movie featuring the soul of a demonic nun with hate for nuns in general. But playing out in real life these last 78 days is the horror flick ‘Nun and the Bishop’; more to the point ‘Nun and Bishop Franco.’

In ecclesiastical hierarchy, nuns are bottom-line functionaries, dingbats and footnotes in the order; they come and go in nondescript robes. And if one gets laid in the pew or in the Bishop’s bed, that’s God’s will, no questions asked. The Church is a male preserve and the Pope himself runs on testosterone, the same as Average Joe.

Bishop of Jalandhar Franco Mulakkal is allegedly up to his neck in rape and “unnatural sex” and yet he gets a free pass, while the nun he compelled to ‘lie in bed’ with him doesn’t get the State’s protection. What’s wrong with India’s criminal justice system? The 44-year-old rape survivor nun has knocked on every door, given her statement to the magistrate under ‘164’, and on her behalf appeals have gone to top state functionaries, including police top brass, but all in vain.

Now, convinced she wouldn’t get justice under Indian law, the victim-survivor has written to the Vatican to punish Bishop Franco under Christian canonical law, which like everybody and Jesus knows will tell her to shut the ABCDEF… up unless the Pope gets a directive from an unresponsive, unseeing God to do something.

The reality of Syria can be made out from the debris of war but to get a reality of God is impossible – He doesn’t show himself! The devil lacks such predictability. Satan describes himself often and then he could be Asaram Bapu or Bishop Franco. Both religious frauds who used their religion-endowed family jewels to force disciples of God to surrender the hymen to high men. Asaram got his comeuppance but will Bishop Franco Mulakkal?

In the Oscar winning ‘Spotlight’ the Catholic Church, when told about child sex abuse by priests, rather than take action attempted cover-up: It sent the culprit priests to new parishes, free to carry on with their delights. Father Franco can look forward to such a rehabilitation and maybe he is, after all. With men like MLA PC George to show him the way, there is every chance he will make headway.

The FIR alleging that Bishop Franco Mulakkal raped the nun 13 times in two years was turned into a joke by George, who slurred and slandered her like he wouldn’t a female relative. The police have been investigating and a police affidavit has suggested that a case of rape could be made. But, by God, that did not happen. The Centre for obvious reasons has not stepped in, wary of politicising the issue, keeping in mind 2019.

Flood-drenched communist Pinarayi Vijayan has gone seeking health to the land of the Capitalist Satan, while a Che Guevera-style ‘counter-insurgency’ has been set in motion with “victim shaming” and a “pressure group” slamming the nun for “a well-planned conspiracy against the bishop” and asking to “examine her moral turpitude”. This, after news filtered out that the nun’s family was offered “Rs 5 crore” in bribe money to back off and nuns backing her were offered “land for a convent” to look the other way.

Without much ado, let’s make it clear that it is the Indian State’s credibility at stake here. Is there rule of law in India? Too much has been made out of the Constitution of India these last four years; does the statute count at all? What about the lady’s fundamental rights? And will she have to get “justice” from the Vatican, and not the country she and her tormentor owe allegiance to? Will the ‘Nun and the Bishop’ turn out to be a joke like the ‘Nun and the Bus Driver’? Mind you, the joke gets its kicks from a cemetery!
