Relief

An evocative rain poem, by Dr. Amrinder, exclusively for Different Truths.

Raindrops knock on my window
I do not let them in.
They hit, the glass pane like pellets
But I pay no heed.
They glide down in a stream of tears
But I pretend I have not seen.
For I have an agenda of my own
The wind comes sighing at my window
I do not let it in
It rattles panes, as if in distress
But I pay no heed
It bangs hard to attract my attention
But I pretend I have not heard.
For I have an agenda of my own.
As lightning flashes across the skies
A thought flashes through my mind.
That I have not locked them out
But have locked myself in for,
Sorrow shared is sorrow halved.
I fling open the window and put out my face
To let my tears and sighs mingle with theirs.
