Why do we feel lonely? Is it because we are not happy? Somewhere, we feel, we have lost the purpose of our lives. We no longer know ourselves. We do not exist in our own world. We start to question our own existence. We are searching for something we don’t know to fill in the void. We end up getting depressed or distracting ourselves with materialistic pleasures, which pep us up momentarily. But at the end of the day we are back into the dark lonely niche we carved for ourselves. Is it because our life lacks something or maybe we are searching for something specific that excites us at different levels. Be it physical, emotional, intellectual or spiritual. We long for that one thing that can rekindle the joy within us. Here’s Saliasree’s voyage within, where she tries and connects with her inner being, in this reflective write-up, exclusively for Different Truths.

Have you ever felt lonely even when you are surrounded by people you love and know? It is a heart-wrenching feeling of void and emptiness. It feels like that video shot, where you are standing on a street amidst the never ending traffic of people, who are vanishing at lightning speed and you are still standing there clueless.

Why do we feel the way we feel?

It can be a person, a moment, an experience, a relationship that would jolt us from our dark lonely niche and touch our soul filling us with a sense of wholeness.

Everyone’s ultimate goal in life is to be happy. How, when and what makes you happy are the choices we make to strive to attain happiness. At some point, we have to accept who we are, how we are and what we are. This acceptance itself would help us enlighten ourselves and our souls. Accepting yourself and being happy with yourself is the key for overcoming any despair or anguish in life. Acceptance does wonders to your tormented soul.

I know it’s easier than said. Believe me, I was there. I messed up too and I messed up bad. I was suffering and my loved ones too.

For me, it was a moment that rekindled my hope of joy. It made me feel alive, accepted, loved and inspired me to be the crazy me. That moment was my moment of self-realisation and so-called enlightenment.

My heart, body, and soul called out to me telling me that I am free, free of the pain, suffering, turmoil and torture. I felt very light and I realised I was missing out on life. I was missing out on all my precious outrageous moments that make me, me. I had to decide now: how to live my life, the cause/causes of my anguish and what I would do to overcome it.

The me-time/ my time I had was a thought provoking process that gave me confidence and I felt that I am in charge of myself. It made me strong and broadened my perspective about my life. Be convinced that the best days are still out in front of you as someone rightly said work on yourself, by yourself and for yourself.
