Protest against Repression on Dalits Fighting for Land Rights by Akailis, BJP in Punjab

There were agitation in Allahabad and Kaushambi against atrocities on Dalits by landlords and repression by the state police, in the Akali Daj-BJP led government in Punjab. A report.

Hundreds of landless and poor farmers protested at various places in Allahabad and Kaushambi against atrocities on Dalits by landlords and repression by the state police in the Akali Dal – BJP led in Punjab. In Allahabad, the protestors squatted on the road and took out a rally with placards in hand while in Kaushambi the protest was held at Asrawal Khurd, Jalalpur, Audhan, Ujihini.

The protestors carried placards demanding a Judicial Enquiry into the lathicharge, firing and arrest of dalits and leaders of Zamin Prapti Sangharsh Committee protesting against illegal auction of Panchayat lands of Dalits to non-Dalits on May 24 this year in Bald Kalan village of Sangrur district. More than 170 have been booked and 30 arrested, while more than 52,000 acres of Panchayat Land meant to be auctioned only to Dalits is at stake. Badal-BJP govt has been secretly auctioning it to dummies in order to allow landlord control over the land. The protestors demanded withdrawal of cases, release of those arrested and punishment to those involved in all these illegal transactions.

They also demanded judicial enquiry into the murder of AIKMS Ganjam District President, Com. Adangoo Gomango by landlords and right wing activists and reoccupation of two Dalit families in Jaspur, Kashipur, in Uttarakhand, who have been forcefully evicted by landlords. The protest vowed to continue to struggle for land to the tiller, land to the poor, reduction of ceiling, end to unending litigation, mining permits to the boatmen and stone quarry workers in Allahabad and Kaushambi.

They were led by their leaders, comrades Heeralal, Ram Kailash, Raj kumar, Bachilal, Phulchand, Suresh Nishad, Ramphal, and others.

They submitted a memorandum on the above demands address to the chief minister of Punjab, Odisha, and Uttarakhand.
