Never Give Up

Positivity from your side can rub into the positivity of the people around you and it helps in changing the way people feel. A positive attitude will only come by practice and being proactive. To be and stay positive is probably the toughest thing that people of our generation can do because, for us, it is rather unrealistic and fascinating, yet not impossible, advises Preeyan, in the weekly column, exclusively for Different Truths.

There are times when we are kind of stuck in a corner with our backs to the wall. In such situations we usually, tend to give up and very few of us who are able to stand up and fight. If you ask the fighter, he will say that he fights best when his back is to the wall. Because he knows the only way out is to fight hard without fear of attack from the back. So is the case with you, “Never give up”.

Its just a little positive inclination to a problem you are facing that is needed. I am deliberately being a little abstract here as each one of us have a way of dealing with things. The direction is the same but the nature of our approach is different. The only common factor is being positive. Positivity from your side can rub into the positivity of the people around you and it helps in changing the way people feel. Positive attitude will only come by practice and being proactive. To be and stay positive is probably the toughest thing that people of our generation can do because, for us it is rather unrealistic and fascinating, yet not impossible. I learnt it the hard way to stay positive. There was a time in my life when I was down and was not in a position to do anything. That is when I started writing my column with Different Truths (DT), then I realised that what I was writing was giving me a reassurance and leaving a very positive impact on my attitude. Things started to change. I now am in a position to say to all that when you hit rock bottom, the only way left to go is up. So, relax! it just takes one small move to just change your life. Do it with positive intentions.

Positivity can be practiced by changing your thought process in small ways. Firstly, do not jump the gun to do anything. Take a moment to realise the positive aspect of doing or not doing something and act accordingly. That one small moment of break where you put your whole world on pause is when you get the time to reflect and measure the consequences of your actions. Never let yourself do something that will make you regret a decision you took in life. Even a simple decision like thought of buying a car or going in for a housing loan, etc… just take a moment of suspended animation, think of all the possible effects, sometimes while doing this we completely forget thinking of the insurance cost that will be recurring every year or the cost of the house you will take on rent till the time you get the possession of your new house, etc.

Look at every problem with a positive frame of mind. It is not good to think of solutions to a problem when you are not in the right state of mind. Each one of us have experienced this in life that what we seemed will be a problem forever and we keep worrying and that one day all of a sudden “Eureka” we found the solution to the problem with a simple move or a modification that made us pass through the problem without a glitch. We never really know how we came up with that thought or idea, but experience says that the key is staying positive and not taking any decision when we are not in the right frame of mind. The right state of mind is when you are not extremely excited either positively or negatively. An excited state of mind is when you are intoxicated by all the energy like you are under the influence of something hence that little time to calm down always works.

Having a conversation with a good friend can be helpful. This friend will help you take your mind off the negative impact of the problem or listen to you and make you vent out all the negative energy in you. So you need to practice this act of discussing with friends. There are many who do not have this habit and even when they are talking or hanging out with friends they are actually just there for the sake of it. We have seen such friends who know everything about us but never shares with us, remember they have larger problems than us. It is those who become incapable to remain positive throughout. Hence sharing is good, if you have not till now just try it. Talk to a friend, share your life problems with them and see how it starts to help you in what you do. And remember it is also important that you do that to a friend so that you help spread that positivity. This habit will make you a person who is looked up to and you become a helping hand to a friend who is in need of moral support than anything else. You need not give solutions but can guide them to remain positive.

Any problem will not become the end of life or the end of the line on your career, be honest, simple and positive. You will see that nothing will bother you as life moves on. I keep saying this to my friends who may have lost a job or anything that things happen for the good, you get to learn from your mistakes and end up becoming better person so it is not the end of the world as life goes on. We just need to remember that everything changes and moves on. We only have to keep our mind ready to accept this as good and keep moving. There is no place in this world for those who get stuck in the past. Life goes on and so will you.

Have a wonderful week.

Cheers!
