Mad Woman in Metro

An evocative poem about a mad woman, a metropolis-centric poem, by Dr. Piku, exclusively for Different Truths.

In every gentle ray of rain-washed autumn sky
That caress moistened lashes of the listless eye
Gazing at the chiaroscuro etching time
Of love and children, husband, home and diya benign.
Under roadside banyan of the careless metro
Mad woman smiles and blows the conch-shells in her mind.
How fevered brows now cling to moments
That touch the clouds with wings of austere oblivion
Crusted dust on matted tresses speak tales of descent of the scion
Glorious in the bulge of deranged woman’s frame
Smiling at the metro life without shame.
Time lost is caressed in the illusion of home and hearth
Motherhood of a mad woman grants metro life its desired mirth.
Lost time in her fevered mind plays myriad games of loss and gain
Defiled mother nurtures scion in timeless honour of timeless pain.
