Spread the love

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A poignant and intense love poem from Mamta, for Different Truths.

In spaces long ago
Among lush, verdant hills
A loving mother ushered
Her son, a fetching groom
His shy blushing child-bride in tow.

In prison was locked the patriarch
Protesting against the British
The lone, brave, unlettered mater
Laboured through all adversities
To sustain and survive, not to perish.

Urging the newly-weds within loving arm-fold
Into her humble tiled roof dwelling
To plant a Jacaranda sapling
With Nargis bulbs duo
Before crossing the thresh-hold.

Love’s patient, steady
Tender, intimate for sure
Silver hair, warts or wrinkles irrelevant
It’s infinite and pure
The mother departed, her bloodline secure.

The lilac hues of Jacaranda
The heady redolence of Nargis
Spread their magical weave
Unobtrusive, distilled slowly
Did potent love conceive.

The couple remained blissful
Their family evolved
Holding picnics and soiree
Under the lavender blossoms
Of the mallow tree.

Lamented by the dense foliage
The Jacaranda they had nurtured
And Nargis with utmost love and care
The aging companions
Embraced their end with courage.

The epilogue of the lovers endeavour
Upbeat and full of cheer
Kids grew older to pledge and relay
The Jacaranda abloom, the Nargis ever heady
In the lush hills, evergreen love sways forever.
