How Elusive is Freedom?

Freedom, though elusive, is the single motivating factor in making us happy in our jobs and lives, states Preeyan. An exclusive for Different Truths.

It is a delight to be able to pen this as a subject. We all crave for freedom in some way or the other. It is yet strange that we as humans have a tendency to be tied down. Even from over a century, we have been tied down by imperialism, then it was industrialism and after that capitalism and now technology.

People have used this one trait of ours for marketing and mass hypnotism for the sake of profits and deriving benefits. The industry thus has thrived on this stranglehold and ensured that they have control over the noose of many individuals. This has also helped influence the craving that we all have for want of freedom. The tighter we get entangled in the web of technology and virtualisation the intensity of freedom we feel has increased. We have completely disregarded the inverse effect it has on us in any way.

What we want to disclose and what we want to be a secret is completely in our hands. We need to start realising that and work towards enjoying our freedom that we all have.

We are meant to be free, free to choose what we want and what we don’t. What we want to disclose and what we want to be a secret is completely in our hands. We need to start realising that and work towards enjoying our freedom that we all have.

Freedom of speech and expression, something that we all have fought for and what democracy promises seems to be taking a completely different tangent. People who are more and more open and free on the social media network than they are in real life.

The pain and struggle of freedom is something that very few realise as they are so engrossed in living for today that the realisation of what is meant to have fading value.

The pain and struggle of freedom is something that very few realise as they are so engrossed in living for today that the realisation of what is meant to have fading value. The reason why I say all this is because I have also been going through that phase in life where everything seems overwhelming and that we are stuck in a spiral that is hitting back at us every time we try to do something different.

Here is what I realised that I want all my readers to understand and comprehend. Freedom is the base of free thinking and self-confidence. Freedom from what? you may ask. It is from the very confines you have set for yourself.

Often, we just go with the flow and leave it to fate, we restrict ourselves from doing things we know is right, but the fear of failure takes it away.

The fact that we work from 7 am to 9 pm every day for money, a better lifestyle, a serious ambition or “wishful thinking” that’s what I would call it. Freedom from the confines of your conscience, which sometimes makes you take decisions out of emotional commitment than liberal. The confusion that the mind gets into when we want to express ourselves. Often, we just go with the flow and leave it to fate, we restrict ourselves from doing things we know is right, but the fear of failure takes it away.

Being free is about setting ourselves out of this cage we have created. It is this

cage that has actually made the virtual world more exciting to us and we seem to slowly lose interest in reality and real life. I once saw a lovely video of about a girl who looks so happy and glee on her Facebook account with over a million followers and thousands of friends, but in reality, it’s a really sad story. Underneath the façade of the smiles and beauty lies the depths of depression and pain. Unfortunate is the end of that story, but what it really meant was that we need to start being free and start to live the way we want to. It is high time that we took up this freedom gifted to us and use it in real life. It feels more pleasurable to help someone in reality and get an appreciation for that than a like on Facebook or Instagram on one of the pictures we have put.

Freedom is not about where you live or how much you earn, its about how you live and what you do.

Try doing things that you really want to and I promise the feeling is very addictive and you will want to do it again. Freedom is not about where you live or how much you earn, it is about how you live and what you do. Do you really like what you are doing? This is a question that has haunted me for years. But as an HR professional, it is the smaller things in life such as helping a person in need, being a moral support and seeing someone recover from depression, counselling youngsters to find purpose in what they do and the amount of love I get to share with the hearts of all the people I have been associated with, This is what makes me see the response to this question. Life is here and now, if we don’t live it then what is it that we know of tomorrow that we are looking for solace in? We are what we do today. We will live forever in history and not in the future what has no obvious outcomes. We need to have this liberation in the way we feel. Things will change and it will make you feel better.

Like a friend of mine once told, our life is the sum total of all the memories we have made and nothing else matters.

Imagine this, you get up in the morning, nice and fresh, enjoy your morning chores and head to work, you see the same people every day, but today you just feel like sharing a smile with them and even wish them good morning. Then you reach office smile at your receptionist and wish her good morning and give her a smile. You stop over at a friend’s desk and help him with some scattered papers and happily enquire about his day. Then wish him all the best and go to your work station, start with your first call for the day and keep that smile going. Everything goes well, you made a few people happy and you got back home in the evening with a smiling face feeling less tired because you did not frown much. You will realise that you remember that day for a long time. Like a friend of mine once told, our life is the sum total of all the memories we have made and nothing else matters. It’s about how many things we have to remember and be happy about.

This is freedom and it will help you in every way possible!
