How do we Build Trust?

We need to figure out a way to fight insecurity and learn to trust. Successful people are the ones who trust others. Preeyan shows how do they do it. A Different Truths exclusive.

Trust is the ‘soul factor’ for keeping relationships tight. It is the lack of trust that causes a lot of misunderstanding. It is the insecurity that we have that creates lack of trust. Therefore, it is essential that we build on trust and keep our position secure. With ever increasing competition we are left with very few options and hence can’t blame anyone for being that way. We need to figure out a way to fight it and learn to trust. Successful people are the ones who trust others. There are those I know who trust anyone, and for them not to trust someone is truly because that person is not trustworthy. This is because they are wise. I am not saying all successful people trust people. But it is a fact that they achieved what they did because of their trust on people and the strength of their relationships.

How do we build trust? This is a question many have asked me and here are some of the tings that seem to have worked for me. When we display our trustworthiness with people, they generally tend to reciprocate positively. We need to make them believe that we can be trusted before we start trusting them completely. Trust people who are not judgmental of you. If you fail you will not fail completely it is only the trust you lose on someone. Never make people feel that you do not trust them. Even if they fail to do something, try to get them to do it or help them complete it.  In any relationship, the level of trust is always in line with the effort you put in to trust the other person.

Why is trust so important? Let’s take an example here. A husband has a travelling salesman job, which means he is not home for over 15 days in a month. The wife is at home always worried about how he is going to manage on his own, not realising that he has been doing this from well before the marriage. Nagging starts and this leads to mistrust. The husband is left feeling that his wife is following his every move and just does not allow him the independence and thinks that she does not trust him. The second scenario is where the wife understands completely about all his hassles and asks him to call at least once a day and never starts to nag. Trusts that her husband will come back home to her. This is what in a relationship is important. They end up being practical and are good to each other. He is also not in any stress from the family. Now, the difference here is the trust. To trust someone, you need to give them the independence and give them the assurance that you trust them. And you will see most of the time the trust will be strong keeping the relationship filled with life. This is not only true for couples, it is true among friends, relatives, siblings and kids. It’s the trust that we display that keeps the relationship very strong and emotionally connected.

What happens when there is no trust? There is always pain, there is always negative energy and the synergy of a relationship is lost. Remember that friend of yours who did not stand up for you when you needed the most. Remember the argument you had with your parents about some lost money. Remember the fear we used to get before the results were announced in college. Remember the way you felt when you proposed to your dearest one. That feeling is actually called anxiety which is something you get because of lack of trust in one way or the other. Sometimes we don’t trust ourselves or our luck and that causes a lot of pain and anxiety. This creates a negative impact which does not heal for a long time. That’s what breaks relations and where there is no trust there is no relationship.  It is really tough to live without any relationship with anything. The emotional connect is important to keep us content. We are on a journey and there are ups and downs. The relationships we have actually gets us past this journey with many memories.

Someone once told me that a person’s life is not measured by how he lived but by how many memories he takes on his way. I trust that, it is these relationships that give us memories and the fonder they are the better is the value of our life.

Keep your trust, it will help build faith, helps keep company, helps in achieving your goals in life and keeps you in midst of people always and you will never have a lonely moment.

The world is too small to fill a person’s ego, but is big enough to be shared. You need to learn to trust people if you really want to achieve what you want the way you want to. Because without people to be with you and stand by you it becomes difficult to do it alone.
