What are the Drivers of Successful Business?

Preeyan tells us about the drivers of successful business, exclusively for Different Truths.

The key to any successful enterprises is its drivers. They can be a keypunch line, a taste, a style, an image that has been created or the people who are involved in the business in its entire sense. We as workers need to understand that most of the intangible stuff, we cannot really drive but as key members of a team we can really drive the business to success by ourselves because what we do and how we do it matters.

There are certain key things that we will need to keep in mind.

Keep the Team Together

Wherever you are, you would have realised that the best team is the one that enjoys working together. To make this teamwork, it is up to us to take the first step, if we wait, we will keep waiting and that will never happen. As part of the team, it is up to us to start or initiate any such kind of activity or thought evoking conversation that will lead to a constructive thought process and a better bonding in the team. When we are working in a team, we are aware of all the issues that cause the team to be dysfunctional, we need to avoid all such things to ensure that the team is driven in the right direction. The team is key for a successful business, the strike of the right balance means that the business is successful.

Positive Approach

Many successful businesses that I have come across have only one thing in common – they keep the atmosphere positive.

It is a habit that at times we use negative connotations to cite examples. We mostly never have a very positive way of looking at things. Many successful businesses that I have come across have only one thing in common – they keep the atmosphere positive. The more the management is positive the more they rub on to people down the line. This creates a ripple effect that will ensure that the drivers are moving outwards and not inwards. Many have spoken about positive thinking and the “laws of attraction” is also mainly talking about this. The more we think positive and behave in a positive manner the more positives we attract and the focus remains positive and the results are successful. A positive approach to me is also to avoid fears, the fears of failure are the biggest enemy for drivers of growth. Fear sometimes makes us do silly mistakes that otherwise you would never do.

There was a story once someone told me about this. Two kids were playing on a tree. They climbed up the branch and were sitting on it. At some point, they seem to have got stuck in a situation where they could not climb down and were scared. The parents of the children came looking for them and on seeing them one parent screamed, “be careful don’t fall down” and the other parent screamed, “hold on tight, we are getting help”

The child of the parent who said be careful don’t fall down ended up falling from the tree and breaking a bone. While the other kid held on tight till someone came for help.

Being positive means this. It rubs on in the right way.

Put in Your Time

Work is about the effort we put in the right time. But the time you put in is also a key. Never hold back when work demands you to go that extra mile. It will prove that you are capable and you are started to be seen in a different light. We need to understand this, it is not about the amount of work we do, but always about the quality of work and the effort we put in to it. Expertise is built by knowing how we manage time and work exactly. The more your expertise is sharpened the better it is for you.

Remember that we do matter. The reason why we have been hired and at a particular job is not that someone miscalculated, it is because there is a need.

Remember that we do matter. The reason why we have been hired and at a particular job is not that someone miscalculated, it is because there is a need. And if we contribute it is fulfilling this need and it does matter at the end of the day to every one including you.

We are best when we are clear about what we are doing. This clarity brings with its confidence. We need to keep this confidence high and ensure that we are working towards a common goal. In any organization, the ultimate aim is to ensure that the bottom line is growing. And that should be the only singular focus of all the teams and all the people working there. Setting up our goals in that direction will help us achieve our individual objectives as well. We need to ensure that we are aligned in this. This alignment will make you one of the key drivers for the business of the company.

We are all the same blood. We sometimes get so carried away by our individual goal that we forget to keep track of where the business of the organisation we represent is going.

We are all the same blood. We sometimes get so carried away by our individual goal that we forget to keep track of where the business of the organisation we represent is going. Individually, we may be reaching heights that we are setting ourselves but if we fail at getting the organisation goal then we are the one who stand to lose. We lose reputation and credibility which can cost more than the Audi’s and BMW’s we dream of. You are in control only when you know you are aligned with what the business wants. Once you are aligned the team will follow. You need not be the leader of the team but even as an individual contributor you can influence people in your team. It just is a matter of willingness to do it.

Think about it.
