Workers campaigned against these goonda tactics led by SO Ghoorpur and demanded his suspension. They also demanded seizure of the two tractors which had been caught by the workers illegally lifting dry sand. CO Karchana has ensured registration of all cases but has carefully avoided this case as their own illegal interest is involved in saving these tractors. Led by AIKMS they also campaigned for getting sand mining restarted to ensure livelihood to workers, demanding registration of boats and issue of permits to boat owners under Chapter 6 of UP Minor Minerals (Concession) Rules 1963. They said administration’s argument of High Court ban is wrong as the Hon’ble HC has not banned Permits. It has only banned mining by syndicates, an issue of permits on old leases and non-implementation of the lease conditions set out by the Supreme Court. Here’s a report in Different Truths.

Sand workers assembled in huge numbers to distribute their campaign leaflet in Ghoorpur Market where goons supported by SO Ghoorpur had manhandled several workers since January 20, as they were opposing lifting of dry sand from Jamuna ghats. This had to Ghoorpur market becoming totally quiet for last five days, bringing business to a standstill making the shopkeepers restless, according to a press release.

The release added that workers campaigned against these goonda tactics led by SO Ghoorpur and demanded his suspension. The workers also demanded action against one Vinod Gosai, who has removed several stones from under the historical national monument Sujavan Devta to block river water flow and facilitate illegal mining from near it. This complaint has been pending with SDM Bara and SO Ghoorpur, who are willingly looking the other way, stated the press release.

AIKMS leaders presented a memorandum of their demands to DM Allahabad today morning which was received on his behalf by Additional City Magistrate, in which they have also demanded withdrawal of false cases lodged against them.

All shopkeepers welcomed the campaign by workers. A huge gathering of the tens of thousands workers will be held, on January 28, in Ghoorpur, in which the leaders hope to tell the workers how the administration has responded to their demands, informed the press release.
