Focus: AI Illusion, Prison Reform, and a Cricket Sensation Shines

Make human friends. Not AI bugs

Loneliness is an all-time ailment,
nay, a sense of being those plague
the mind and body pavement. No wonder then,
humans, not trusting the homo sapien kind
anymore, are resorting to comfort derived
from machines permitted to get in sync
with human emotions.
If it was this and nothing more,
what an achievement it would be, but AI use or
misuse comes packed with deadly repercussions
states Eric Schmidt, former Google CEO
who warns about the hidden dangers lurking
in AI mindscapes making people fall for the
perfect mates that exist not in the real world.
The AI Chabot startup Character enables
two-way conversation until real life seems unreal
enough for lonely youth to become radicalized
to shun reality and take their lives.
Chat we must but with humankind,
much better than an artificial entity that kills
from behind.

UK prison: A way to earn a living

If you are in the UK and in prison, you could land up
earning more than guards and teachers,
What a job for history sheeters!
For those who remember jail reform movies
like Do Ankhein Baarah Haath, aiding prisoners
to transform into better people
working, studying, improving their self-esteem
like Kiran Bedi did while in service stream,
it is news to hear that in open jails where prisoners
are allowed to work outside during
the day and come back when night falls, inmates
are earning much more than the officers
guarding them!
Something to be appreciated or pondered over?
The disparity in wages between the ones serving
sentences behind the bars and those honest
citizens working hard, living near and far
has begun to prey on the brains
of the rehabilitative approach towards prisoner chains.
Is too much reform going over the bridge or under?

Going going gone for a crore

Kaun Banega Crorepati is an old hat.
Today, a teenager can earn crores
just hitting a ball with his cricket bat.
Don’t believe me? You should.
Teenager Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the youngest
cricketer at the recent IPL auction
got sold to Rajashthan Royals for his talent
for much more than a fraction.
The second youngest to qualify for the Ranji Trophy
Bihar, age fraud is something he is accused of.
Between 13 and 15 runs the speculation.
In India, such a jugaadu is no big allegation.
So, let’s concentrate on his laurels
leaving aside petty ‘age’-old quarrels.
Youngest batter to score an international century
smashing 104 off 62 balls in the U-19
against team Australia celery.
Let us wish the lad the best,
lots of excellent batting from his treasure chest.
