Flexible Screens and Frames

Reading this, if you’re thinking companies are heading back to the era of flip phones, you’re wrong! Imagine folding a smartphone around your wrist or just folding it to fit in your small pocket. Amazing, right? Several companies including Samsung and Huawei have been displaying the foldable screen phones in various shows and fairs for some time now. Nokia’s Morph phone was showcased back in 2008 which the company claimed to ‘transform the user’s experience’. These phones will allow for more efficient multitasking and are considered as potential replacements for PCs.

Air-Powered Batteries

Who doesn’t like the long battery life of their smartphones? Gone are the days when one had to carry chargers around. People have now resorted to power-banks. But, the day is closer when you don’t have to carry that too. In the coming days, your smartphone battery will harness power out of thin air.

But, the day is closer when you don’t have to carry that too. In the coming days, your smartphone battery will harness power out of thin air. Yes, you read that right. The technology, in this case, is no different than the way the internet is distributed through Wi-Fi. An experiment on AA battery has come out successful where the radio frequencies used to transmit power between transmitters were applied to these batteries. Though it may take some time, smartphones, in the long run, would adopt the technology as well.

Environment-friendly Smartphones

In the era of sustainable development, smartphones are also becoming

sustainable gradually. Researchers are looking for biodegradable materials and cleaner energy charging methods for smartphones. Adding a similar feature to the above-mentioned charging alternatives, a solar-powered prototype has emerged as a potential way of charging. For people who stay or work for long hours away from the source of charge could use this method. A company manufacturing such a smartphone says that three minutes of sunshine can give enough charge for a one-minute phone call. In another alternative development, a company claims that spinning your smartphone round on your finger can charge it up. It uses kinetic energy to charge the battery. Though it’s not yet clear how much time of spinning it would need to boost the battery, but trust me, the time is not far when you’ll be able to charge your battery pretty much anywhere.

Educational Tools

Ed-tech or educational technology is going to change the way of learning very soon, and mobile phones will pioneer it. Digitisation through mobile would offer more personalised learning material to each child, based on his/her speed of learning. Teachers can now use audio-visual methods to impart knowledge and can also access a student’s progress digitally.

Some education authorities have already started using texts to alert parents to the truancy and also notify pupils of classroom changes. At present, when the complete nation is under lockdown, teachers are using various ed-tech tools to continue teaching their students.

5G

A smartphone without internet connectivity is just a calling box. Demand for network connectivity is on the rise these days due to increasing work from home modules. With 4G rolling-out in many mature markets, it is interesting to see how 5G will change the telecom sector, especially in India. Network providers like Verizon and AT&T Mobility have already started offering 5G networks in some advanced countries like the U.S. and UK. Indian market still waits for the launch of the 5G network despite the availability of 5G enabled phones. 5G will be faster and powerful than existing networks in India as it’ll share bandwidth over fixed routers and small cells.

Technological advancement is a never-ending process and continues to evolve with each passing day. The more you demand, the more features are at your disposal. Keep demanding to keep harnessing.
