Just a few days ago, India’s most successful captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, announced his retirement from international cricket in an Instagram post. Cricket enthusiasts and celebrities were stunned by his decision.
“Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout,” Dhoni wrote. “From 1929 hrs consider me as retired,” he stated.
Dhoni made an unremarkable 16-year long career of the former captain of the Indian Cricket team. Friends and fans started pouring tons of messages and love for his achievement and making everyone’s proud. Ranveer Singh, Taapsee, Dia Mirza and many more including cricket icons Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Kapil Dev flowed their gratitude and simplicity and his down to earth nature.
Here are the five interesting facts that make him classy.
1. Dhoni is not only a talented cricketer but also served as a goalkeeper for his school football team and also has good hands in playing badminton.
2. Before making his successful career in Indian Cricket, he worked as a Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) at the Kharagpur Railway Station under South Eastern Railway, in Midnapore.
3. MS Dhoni is the only player to win the ICC Player of the Year award twice both in 2008 and 2009. The trophy is embedded with a red crystal cricket ball studded with over 4200 Swarovski crystals, resting on a brass hand extended from a gold-plated base.
4. Everyone is familiar with Dhoni’s craziness and passion for the bikes. Mahi bought his first bike for Rs 4,500. Today, he is the owner of a multi-crore garage which holds the collection from vintage to latest models. He even owns a motorcycle racing team, Called the Mahi Racing team with Telugu Superstar Akkineni Nagarjuna.
5. MS Dhoni is the second cricket player after Kapil Dev to earn the Army honorary title of ‘Lieutenant Colonel’ on 1st November 2011.
