Elephantine

Geethanjali weaves a string of stories and parables to invoke Sri Ganesha, in the special feature, in Different Truths

वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ
निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा

Meaning:
1: I meditate on Sri Ganesha – Who has a Curved Trunk, Large Body, and Who has the Brilliance of                  a Million Suns,
2: O Lord, Please Make all my Works Free of Obstacles, Always.

In this dense and complicated jungle of life,

Trampling impediments, hurdles, and strife,

Clearing entwined vines of extraneous desires,

Where rage flames from redundancy of forest fires,

Opening up paths and ways leading to redemption,

Where vistas unravel to horizons of higher intention,

Standing sentinel where flourish trumpets auspicious,

Beckoning denizens lost, groping in swamps vicious,

Rodents clever that wangle their way around smartly,

Become vehicles of activity reaching goals accurately,

Bestowed with an uncanny memory and keen knowledge,

As they scurry with speed of light, quagmires to dredge,

Surfacing clean to carry on with life in perfect harmony,

Delivering mammoth tasks executed in perfect alacrity,

Fearless of losing face or being immersed in seas or rivers,

Controlling malicious serpents of a thought stream that slithers,

There emerges self-righteousness graceful as an elephant,

Bewitching offspring of Shiva’s and Parvati’s first born infant,

Where dark shadows of Shani cast an evil spell to severe a visage,

Yet looming triumphantly the muse of every divinity and sage,

Child preciously precocious who effortlessly won in a cake walk,

Revering parents, personifications of three worlds, love you stalk,

You have won hearts and souls who bow down before you since eons,

Even today moulded to embellish every festivity you loom in neons,

Year after year, the fourth day of the new moon of an ancient almanac,

Oh brilliance of myriad sons/ Suns you dazzle kindling a mind insomniac,

Calming the restlessness of restive souls you spread goodwill and cheer,

Oh Akhurath, Vigneshwara, Poorvaja, Avighna, Gajanana soon you’ll be here,

Uproot all nescience with your single tusk in deep woods of perturbations,

As you quill with smoothness of ivory, epics of good tidings and celebrations,

Harbinger of hope and clarity give us strength and discernment to continue,

Overcoming hurdles that manifest, we triumphantly win, bowing humbly to you!
