The 95th anniversary of Chauri Chaura incident, February 4, 1922, shall be observed tomorrow by CPI(ML) New Democracy at Ghoorpur, on Sunday, with a huge public meeting by paying homage to the martyrdom of three peasant leaders who were killed during the protest against the sale of British goods in Indian markets. The 95th anniversary of Chauri Chaura incident, February 4, 1922, shall be observed tomorrow by CPI(ML) New Democracy at Ghoorpur, on Sunday, with a huge public meeting by paying homage to the martyrdom of three peasant leaders who were killed during the protest against sale of British goods in Indian markets and undermining of Indian industry. On this occasion increasing the sale of resources to MNCs in the name of development, rising unemployment and increasing crises of the peasantry, rising indebtedness, low crop prices, high input crises shall be discussed, stated a media release.
The meeting shall be attended by several progressive Dalit and minorities’ organizations. It shall specially demand an end to atrocities on Dalits by RSS-BJP govt, withdrawal of all cases and release of Bhim Army leader Chandrashekhar as the beginning of launching a movement on the issue, the release added.
The meeting shall also discuss several cases being lodged on Dalits, OBCs, and minorities in the villages by BJP’s Yogi Government in the name of the occupation of government land while sparing the rich and powerful. It shall raise demands of land and house sites to the poor and livelihood and ravanna rights to sand and stone quarry workers. It shall oppose the imposition of draconian black law UPCOCA which targets illegal mining, fishing, quarrying, and sale of forest produce as this charge is made by the police only against the poor. It shall also discuss other issues of atrocities on Dalits, OBCs, minorities including in reservations, promotions, scholarships, etc.
The Chief Guest, Justice BG Kolse Patil is a former judge of Mumbai High Court from 1985 to 1990 and leader of the Lokshasan Andolan of Maharashtra. Justice Patil has been associated with several movements including those against Enron, SEZs, Narmada Dam, Union Carbide and for rights of the downtrodden. He was also involved in the exposure of Hindu Terrorism in Nanded and Malegaon, the media release stated.
