Earthquake in Italy leaves 37 dead; Kolkata also experiences mild tremors

A strong earthquake hit central Italy in the wee hours. It affected three beautiful mountainous villages, popular summer holiday spots. Reportedly 37 people were dead and the toll is likely to rise. Another earthquake hit Kolkata, India. It experienced jolts and tremors too. However, there were no loss of lives and limbs, authorities added.  

A strong earthquake hit Italy in the wee hours, early Wednesday, at 3.36am. Reportedly 37 people are dead. It measured 6.2 in the Richter scale.

Rescuers were busy digging the rubble to pull out survivors from the three villages in the mountainous region of Italy.

CNN reported that the deaths included 10 people in the village of Pescara del Tronto, six in Accumoli and five in Amatrice, adding that children were among the victims. Collapsed and damaged houses in Pescara del Tronto.

The earthquake hit 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) southeast of Norcia at 3:36 a.m., and was about 10 kilometers deep, the United States Geological Survey said. Its tremors rattled Rome — about 100 miles away.
The death tolls were not known and is likely to rise, as per media reports.

Meanwhile, in another case, tremors were also felt in eastern India. The epicenter of the earthquake was reportedly at Myanmar.

People rushed out of homes and offices in Kolkata.

No loss to life and limbs were reported from anywhere.

Mild tremors were also felt in Patna and Guwahati.
