Shail explores social commentary, from the controversy of an influencer’s vulgarity to the dangers of online dating scams and a humorous anecdote about a cat’s temple offerings, exclusively for Different Truths.

‘Latent’ fervour of faulty freedom
Guess Modi judged wrongly
awarding the fallacious influencer.
Despite splendid videos on spirituality
and belief, sensational gross
comment comes out as a winner
for a show that unfortunately
has followers for tawdry stuff that
could make people cringe.
It was a program. An expression of
freedom, some say. Aren’t there
more serious problems to dwell on,
Others ask.
True. So, what is one supposed to do?
Tick off such shows from the visible grid?
Who is going to be the judge of what
is right and wrong? Media, known
to pass mock judgment
in cases they deem fit. Is anyone
doing anything to pull the shutters
down on paedophiles and pornographic
addicts? Is the world getting any better
for the lack of verdicts on the above-stated?
No youth is getting spoiled because of this.
The youth are already blemished; that’s why
we have such senseless gigs
being tossed into the oven of an already burning
cinder. What of the endless rapes that
go un-sentenced? What of the corrupt
politicians who rule despite their criminal
records? Isn’t the world already contaminated
because of them? Why are the rich getting
richer, shamelessly displaying stinking wealth
in fat Indian weddings? Shouldn’t there be
a legal limit to the budget on display?
Why are the poor getting poorer? Why are
job opportunities still being based on caste
and bribes? Ranveer has faltered at the pinnacle
of his slow and steadily built success as a
positive influencer. He has lost subscribers,
lost credibility, and been trolled for words
he could have avoided. Punishment enough.
Let us now peep into our own homes and minds
that house dark perverted thoughts.
Let the perfect faultless righteous
human raise his hand first.
Romantic scammers
Valentine’s Day.
Couples are joyous.
The singles are searching.
And the scammers are looking out
to swindle people on the most popular
romantic festive spirit in the world.
Be on the lookout.
Not all dating, media apps are genuine.
They are just hunting for prey.
Be aware. You could be their lucky day.
All red need not be love.
It could be the tainted blood of the hard
work of people taken for a ride
to indulge in emotion-
an illusion in motion.
Meta warnings are all around.
Be wary of fast-paced romance,
money indicators and the like.
Fake accounts are in romantic mode.
Don’t take a chance on Valentine.
Gosh! What am I saying?
Love is blind!
Feline non-vegetarian offering to the Lord
Before the matter tumulted
into an anti-religion feud
inviting shrewd politicians
and hypocritical social workers
into a trap,
it was discovered that a feline
species was merely offering
bhog to the Lord in the temple
before consumption.
Luckily, CCTV saved the day.
A Hyderabad temple put on
high alert after pieces of meat
were discovered near the
Shiva Lingam.
No desecration this.
Just a feline Shiv disciple’s bliss.

Aptly put. There are so many things that need to be corrected but we are busy creating new wrongs.
Very true, Neel. Instead of rectifying things we are adding to the newer wrongs.
Wow Shail, beautifully articulated as usual and how thoughtful and though provoking
Thank you, Brinda. So sweet of you to say so. Glad you liked what I wrote.
