‘Save Environment, Save Mankind’ is Different Truths’ call to one and all. It is the befitting mantra of the 21 st century. The flora and fauna – the life on our beautiful planet, Earth – is our panacea.
Here’s a brief synopsis of Different Truths’ Special Feature on the eve of the World Environment Day.
Different Truths (DT) extends its gratitude to The Significant League (TSL), a vibrant group of poets worldwide for the tie-up on the World Environment Day (WED). TSL and DT together 1 present the ‘Songs of the Earth: An Anthology of World Environment Day Poems’. Spearheaded by the editor, Dr. Ampat V. Koshy, three young co-editors, Niladri Ranjit Chakraborty, Ritamvara Bhattacharya and Gowri Suresh put together this anthology of 60 poems, one be each poet. While Niladri struck the keynote, Ritamvara wedded the concept of ecofeminism with the environment. It’s a collectors’ item, an interesting read. Each poem shall make you pause and search your soul as poets from world over express solidarity for the cause of environment.
Kunal Karan aka KK is a professor of Chemical Engineering at a Canadian University. Environmental concerns have motivated his research, which is focused on next-generation clean energy technologies. His erudite article, ‘World Environment Day Fact File: Life without Borders!’ addresses all what’s, when’s and why’s. The narrative tells us the theme of WED 2016, ‘Go Wild for Life.’
Kolkata-based author, journalist, and poet, Saheli Mitra, exposes the tall claims of the government about forest cover in India. In her article, ‘Forests or no Forests’, she investigates into the Forest Survey of India’s reports. An expose by her reveals that while forest covers are dwindling, figures are being fudged with impunity. She tells us how figures are being doctored by the government.
Arindam Roy and Anumita Chatterjee Roy, the founders of Different Truths, along with their team, extend their thanks to TSL, its editors, 59 poets, and the two authors, who worked tirelessly to put together this special issue to sensitise the masses. They also extend their deep gratitude to all the readers of DT, without whom, we are less than nothing.
