Just Words

Lily’s poem on the enigma of words.

Cursive writing, italics, capitals
Words in veils, sometimes blood red, or virginal  bridal white
Hastily scribbled on a paper  napkin
Scrawled shoddily on the edge of your curry greased palm

Itching to shriek and scream
Flogged into sanity words
Ferocious, sabre toothed, gregarious,
Making mincemeat out of characters,
Double edged swords, razor sharp, throat slitting words.

Tumbling out of the closet
Sneaky gossipy blackmailing
Over the top, flamboyant words!
Sugary. Syrupy, people pleasing
Boot licking, fawning and flattering words
Mountains of snow storming, heart stopping chilling words!
Who invented you, silly, foot in the mouth, diseased words?
