Happy Birthday, Coronavirus!

Covid-19 has been wreaking havoc in our lives since a year now, yet people are not even slightly impacted by the death rater nor the number of cases worldwide, rues Enakshi. An exclusive for Different Truths.

Life is a constant battle; sometimes it involves walking on fire and sometimes it involves walking on rose petals. Whatever be the situation, humans always know their way out because mankind is known to be the fiercest and the most intelligent species. Why am I appreciating humans in this article, you might ask? Well, it’s because I am so in awe of the human endeavours that are contributing to the growth and prosperity of Coronavirus! What confuses me though is the idea behind existing in harmony with Coronavirus rather than co-existing with nature! Covid-19 has been wreaking havoc in our lives since a year now, yet people are not even slightly impacted by the death rater nor the number of cases worldwide. Strangely enough, the ones who have already walked down the lane where their body screamed for rest and vitamins, they still do not find it necessary to take precautions to avoid the infection!

Knowing that the virus can mutate, and the various variants of the virus can infect the same patient again, people are still living in oblivion. Believing that a 10-day quarantine is going to solve all the problems right and the antibodies that have been developed in the body will prevent the virus from invading the body again, people are venturing outdoors even after suffering once. Sadly, the ignorance level is high, and the precaution level is zero! Whether it is the sound of the crackers or the smoke emitted from those crackers, whether it is the shopping for the non-essential items on the occasion of Diwali or visiting relatives and exchanging sweets, whether it is still meandering on the streets even when there is no other festival around the corner or burning crackers during the wedding processions- people are just so adamant! They say that ‘the only way to survive this pandemic is to begin living with it’. While most of the people I know have already started travelling, visiting, and exploring, I am still like that scared little bird who is too afraid to step out of the house. No, it is not merely because of the fear of getting infected. But it is majorly because of the problems and the concern my condition would arouse in my family and the levels of stress that might take away the peace and calm from our lives!

Diagnosed with Covid-19 again

There is evidence that proves that even if the patient tests negative twice after the first infection, he has been diagnosed with Covid-19 again after some time. Reports suggest that the virus mutates, and it becomes even more difficult to identify if the infection has occurred by the same variant or a different one! But humans are smart beings! They know that by using their ‘home remedies’ they can keep the Coronavirus at bay. They know that infection won’t happen again because the ‘stars cannot always be against you’! The position of the planets or the neighbour who reads palms is enough to foretell whether will the virus affect you, isn’t it? Even though the top-notch scientists are unable to device a vaccine to combat this virus, there are some people who have remedies up their sleeve. They aren’t scared of Covid-19! What they are scared of is the fear of missing out!

With India now going through the third wave of infection, isn’t it imperative to exercise more precautions? But stubborn that we are, we will travel, eat out, party, and do all the things that can pose a potential risk to our as well as others’ health. Such is the mindset, and such are the ways! Well, sometimes a man does take his intelligence to a different level!

It is annoying and frustrating to see people around me roaming around without a mask. A month or so back, people at least wore a mask on their chin. Now they have totally given up the idea of covering their face! No sanitizer, no social distancing, no precautions while going out- absolutely nothing! Imagine the kind of risk it poses to the entire community! One such demonstration of absolute wit and smartness is this!
