“You never change things by fighting the existing reality.

To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” ~ Buckminster Fuller

The world is going through a transition phase wherein all living organisms are undergoing a process of change whether they like it or not. Right from the revival of aquatic species and plants to the repair of the atmosphere — the changes in the natural surrounding seem so exciting. But what about humans? Humans have been bound within the four walls of the house for more than three months now (except a few states, other states have announced a phased lifting of the lockdown). It is surprising how we are still thriving and evolving in accordance with the changes. Although the whining never stops, yet we need to pause and take a moment to appreciate the creature comforts that are aiding us cope with the circumstances.

Imagine if this pandemic had hit us 20 years back! With no smartphones, no internet connectivity and no access to entertainment streaming services, we would have been left lost in the wilderness of boredom. With the boom of the internet and the emergence of telecommunication services, the internet is now available for everyone at a cheap price.

Not only that but the streaming sites offer subscription at lower prices. Thus, there is enough to remain engaged and not while away time. While there are umpteen options of web series, movies and shows to binge-watch, there are many platforms available to showcase your talent as well. People can spend time making How-to videos, write articles, sing, dance and cook. In a way, work from home for everyone and everywhere can happen and thus, we have practically overcome the challenge of not being able to go to the workplace physically.

The benefits of technology are not only limited to adults. Children, too, are able to attend virtual classes and utilise their time to learn something new. Those who want to pursue courses are able to do so by attending Webinars and live sessions. Transfer of documents has become easier because of file sharing applications. Buying and selling no longer require your physical presence. The e-wallets have taken over the hand-to-hand exchange of money. Bills can be paid using your phone. No more standing in long queues under the scorching sun, for the e-commerce takes care of the delivery of goods at your doorstep.

So when everything can be done at your beck and call, what is all the fuss about? The Covid-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc in our lives and the only action that seems to be keeping us safe is social-distancing.

The Covid-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc in our lives and the only action that seems to be keeping us safe is social-distancing. If you are still stressed about not being able to chat with your friends or eat outside, you should see how safe you are compared to the ones who have to go out on a daily basis to provide for your needs.

Counting the blessings is something that we all should be doing at this moment. Had it not been for technology, wouldn’t have been able to enjoy the quarantine period with such ease where our loved ones are just a click away and the applications have become our new house help. The cost of transport has reduced, the extra expenditure on outside food has been minimised, the cost of buying new clothes has been eliminated but still, the salaries are being credited into our accounts.

Isn’t that something to be grateful for? While the people around me keep wishing for the world to go back to normal, I don’t understand their problem. It is not that I am not missing being outdoors.

Isn’t that something to be grateful for? While the people around me keep wishing for the world to go back to normal, I don’t understand their problem. It is not that I am not missing being outdoors. It is just that I understand the severity of the situation and I know that by staying indoors not only am I saving myself from the infection but I am also saving others from getting infected. Indirectly, I am contributing to a healthy community. If that’s isn’t enough to make appreciate what you have, nothing else will.
