Bakeries are closed during the extended lockdown. Sweta tells us how she baked a chocolate cake for her father with just three basic ingredients. An exclusive for Different Truths.
Birthdays are always incomplete without a cake. I can never imagine any of my family member’s birthday without a cake, that too my favourite chocolate cake. On 2nd May is my father’s birthday. Every year I order the best cake from the baker for my superman, but this year I was sad because due to lockdown no baker was available to deliver me the cake. But as I said birthdays are incomplete without cakes, especially when it’s my superman’s birthday. So I decided to be the baker for the day. Using three simple ingredients available at home, I tried my hand in baking for the first time. And Voila! I did it. Come, let’s take a look into my quarantine birthday cake.

- Cook Time: 28 minutes
- Total Time: 58 minutes
- Yield: 06-08 Slices
- Category: Cake
- Method: Oven
Ingredients
- 1 full packet of Oreo biscuits
- 1/2 cup(50 g) powdered sugar
- 2 tsp baking soda
- A pinch of salt
- 1 cup(200ml) milk
- 2 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 drops vanilla extract
- ½ cup (100 g) butter
Decoration
- ½ cup of corn flakes
- Little Heart Biscuits
- Oreos.
Method
- Initially, we need to prepare an 8-inch cake pan with a parchment paper circle in the bottom and grease the sides with butter.
2. We need to crush the Oreo biscuits in a blender to make it into a powder. - Next, we need to add all dry ingredients to a large bowl and whisk together.
3. Now, we add the milk and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients and mix well.
4. To the batter prepared we will add just two drops of vanilla extract and mix well.
5. Time for oven trip. So we fill the batter in a cake pan. Then we go tap, tap, tap with the cake pan to release the extra air trapped. - Finally, we bake at 300 degrees for about 30-33 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with a few crumbs.
7. When the baking is done, we need to remove the cake from oven and allow to cool for about 10 minutes, then remove to cooling racks to cool completely.
8. Once the cake cools down, we will remove cake domes from the top with a large serrated knife.
9.Time for my favourite part, decoration. We just sprinkle a few Oreo crumbles, some LittleHeart biscuits and encircle the cake with corn flakes.
Ta-da, my Lockdown Birthday Cake is ready to be presented. The cake is best when well covered for 2-3 days.
Soon, I will come back with what I had prepared for the surprise dinner for my Superman on his birthday.
