Affirmative Negativity

An intense and evocative poem, by Rituparna, exclusively for Different Truths.

Yes I have tattooed my private parts,
coloured my mane in a chorochromatic chart.

I have undergone a number of surgeries,
I admit slinging on my broken bones.

I have felt the elation of love, one sided,
yes, I have been overjoyed on a horseride.

I have watched someone die helpless, yes.
Yes, I have donated blood to relive.

I have lied for nights in hospital bed.
I have been a without ticket traveller, yes.

Yes, I have danced and danced all night,
I have danced on the streets untrodden.

Oh yes, I have slapped someone so tight,
Scribbled ungiven, unrequited love letters.

I have stolen: hearts, things, time,
Yes, I have hit someone till he bled.

I have crouched and cried all night.
But I have never seen a ghost amongst all these.
