One could visit Goa ideally between October and April. During this period, limited accommodation is available but if you plan your trip in advance, you could make sure that you have a comfortable place to stay. It rains heavily during the other months and that makes sight-seeing very difficult. Beaches are in plenty, just to name a few, Agonda beach, Mandrem, Cola, Varca, Benaulim, Utora, etc. One could take a tourist bus to Old Goa for tracing the rich cultural heritage. A trip to Panaji can be really a good package, covering Keri Beach, Majorda, Shantadurga temple, St. Alex Church and St. Francis Xavier Church.
Panaji is the state’s capital, while Vasco da Gama is the largest city. The historic city of Margao still exhibits the cultural influence of the Portuguese, who first landed in the early 16th century as merchants and conquered it soon thereafter. Goa is a former Portuguese province; the Portuguese overseas territory of Portuguese India existed for about 450 years, until it was annexed by India, in 1961.
