A Woman and her Dog

A dog is a faithful companion to a lonely woman, verses Dr Amrinder, in this confessional poem, exclusively for Different Truths.

Sad is the woman who has no one to talk to
No one to warm her lonely bed
No human touch to ease her pain
No one she can depend upon
Or, turn to in her hour of need
And has,
Only a dog for emotional succour.
But then,
No one listens better than a dog
And heals just by his attentive ear
No one senses your sorrow intuitively
And comforts by silent companionship
No one warms you better than your dog
As he snuggles by you in bed at night
No one raises your spirits more than a dog
With his wagging tail and generous kisses
Glad indeed is the woman who has a dog
For they will be no betrayals, no desertion
No waning of love till, death do us part.
