India put in a powerful batting performance led by a gritty Shikhar Dhawan who hit a magnificent century. Virat Kohli and other batsmen built the Indian innings upon it and propelled India to a mighty 353/5.
In response, the Australian batsmen approached the run chase in an unusually tepid manner. Though they seemed to look threatening at times, they lacked the intent. Even a gutsy Alex Carey cameo was not enough to take them over the line.

After Pakistan put Australia in to bat, the opening pair of Warner and Finch aided by some poor bowling and sloppy fielding saw them weather the initial burst of fast bowling and score quick runs. In a commanding position at 220/2 in the 34th over, Australia looked on course for a total in excess of 350. A bunch of mistakes from there on led to a batting collapse and saw Australia end up with 307 in 49 overs.
