Respect

An intense and evocative poem of protest, by Eliza, exclusively for Different Truths.

For you
It’s just a stepping stone from everyday life,
not just verbal games,
fun.
Promises
she believes in naively.
Unnecessarily
you have made an obedient puppet out of her.
You know that
in a woman thirsty for love
one is not allowed
to ignite hope by passion.

Limits of decency,
do not require courage
– but respect for the other.

Translated from Polish by Artur Komoter
