Political Delicacies

Political snippets from around India, for Different Truths.

AAP to Restrict Itself to Delhi

Aam Aadmi Party has decided not to contest the coming assembly elections in Rajasthan. After the elections in Punjab, Goa, and Gujarat, Kumar Vishwas, who was in charge of Rajasthan, was to be stationed in the state to activate the district units of the party but unfortunately due to the fight between Kumar Vishwas and the chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on the issue of Rajya Sabha seat, he lost interest and left the party in the lurch. In the wake of the election results, AAP is now is considering to limit itself only to Delhi. The party has also not named a replacement for Vishwas in Rajasthan.

By-Elections Loss Aggravates BJP Infighting

With the BJP losing all the three by-elections in Rajasthan, the fight within the state party has come out in the open. Senior BJP MLA Gyanshyam Tiwari has started lobbying against Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje to get her removed from the position. He claims that the BJP and RSS workers are against the working style of Vasundhara Raje. But according to sources, 110 MLAs have signed a letter in support of Vasundhara Raje. The central leadership is said to be in a dilemma and waiting for an appropriate time to take action.

Rahul Keeps Old Guard in his Team

Breaking the precedence of Congress party by which a new party president invariably appoints a hand-picked team, Rahul Gandhi has preferred to keep the old guards close to Sonia Gandhi and take their advice. He consults people like Kamal Nath and Ashok Gehlot as well as young leaders like Sachin Pilot and Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with Ahmed Patel, who resigned as political secretary after Sonia Gandhi stepped down as party chief. Patel’s views are given due weightage, particularly in matters concerning opposition unity, which the party will pursue under the guidance of Sonia Gandhi as well as the old guards.

Bihar PCC in Search of New Chief

After the fall of Mahagathbandhan in Bihar last year, the Congress party had appointed Kaukab Qadri as working President of Bihar Congress in place of Ashok Chaudhary. But now in view of the major political changes and coming Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the party proposes to appoint a new PCC chief and consultations in this regard have already started. The state party unit is now expected to send a report to party high command over the selection of the PCC chief. The names in the discussion are said to include party spokesman Prem Chand Mishra, Anil Sharma, and Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, who had served as health minister in the ministry led by Rabri Devi and also minister of state in the Manmohan Singh government in 200. In March 2011, he was appointed in charge for the states of Jharkhand and West Bengal. A decision is expected to be taken by Rahul Gandhi very soon.
