Dementia, the Demon

An intense social awareness poem on dementia by Sarala, in Different Truths.

He was the much sought after engineer in a well-known firm

With foreign trips plenty

A man with wit and brains

And a good dress sense!

I have been watching him for about five years now with the slow degeneration of brain

denying what he has said or done, to the amusement and agony of others!

Hides the things precious to his heart, not to find it when needed!

Once an avid crossword puzzle solver and mad after Sudoku, nothing interests him anymore!

Sits blankly in his chair looking lost to this world!

A voracious reader that he was spending most of his money on books, now hates to read!

Asking him what he is thinking he says nothing I have finished my thinking long back now let me be!

His mind is blank with grey clouds spreading everywhere

Yes, he has come in for dementia a demon of an illness!

He somehow copes up with his routine bath and food, let God be praised!

I hope and pray they find a cure for this dreaded illness to help them through life and their caregivers!
