Here’s a tribute to a war hero, who laid down his life in Kashmir, gallantly. A poignant verse in Different Truths.

The valley of orchids now plays the giggling of arms,
Fountain of blood dances with swollen cheeks of the neighbours,
Far away, behind the rock, an inaudible sound still haunts him,
Trapped in the dilemma of a cry and a laugh his heart stumbled,
The watch in his hand broke its periphery trying hard to receive,
Thousands of bodies left for the scavengers,
His eyes lifted their gaze when they saw the scavengers falling upside down,
Brutality at its best or the best at its worst?
Even after the bullets shoved his arm he crawled to reach the rock,
Benevolent part of the arm now trying hard to push the rock,
“Push hard, forget the pain” his warm heart commanded,
A heart which the triggers considered cold as an eclipse,
Once the rock got displaced from the age old home,
A tsunami came out of his eyes shattering the idle dams,
Tsunami of dry deserted eyes unveiled the nostalgia beneath,
A six-year-old girl beside a six-year-old boy,
The former with a scratch, while the latter with a broken skull,
The initial cry hugged the last laugh with all their love,
She once demanded that the last thing I want to see in this Valley was a laugh,
He was her valley inside the Valley where she resided,
The last thing she saw before the unconscious atmosphere engulfed her was her Valley’s laugh,
The rescuer was a soldier without arms,
Moments before the union he was a prey for the other soldiers,
The youth vanished before him as he saw the independent love,
The old age refuses to come for the same reason,
He now dies in the valley of love in which he was born with a soft heart beside him,
Let him die as she rains love on him.
