Youth Fest Avirbhav 2k16 Inaugurated with Sports

The week-long youth fest , organised by JK Institute, , opened with . The day commenced with an Opening Mile in which every student ran a  across the entire faculty. It was followed by athletics meet. The cheering crowd, loud applause for the winners and the frenzy struck the keynote of the carnival. Here’s a report by Shreya.

Avirbhav 2k16, organised by JK Institute, Allahabad University, opened with sports day, thus marking the inauguration of its annual cultural extravaganza. Students participating in the carnival were divided into four civilisations: Titan’s Bane – the Greek civilisation, Nile Tamers – the civilisation, Shakti and Shaiva – the civilisation and Dragon’s Descent – the civilisation. Each and every participant competed to earn points for their respective teams in events like Athletics, Throw ball, Volleyball, Arm Wrestling, Gully Cricket, etc.

The event was graced by the Head of the Department, Prof. CK Dwivedi, and other senior professors and was judged by the referees from the Sports department.

The day commenced with an Opening Mile in which every student ran a Marathon across the entire Science faculty. As per the statistics of the marathon run, there were more than 800 finishers, with 63% men and 27% women participating in it.

The Opening Mile was followed by athletic events like 100m, 4x100m relay race and other sports like Back-throw, Throw-ball, Volleyball, Shot put, etc. With racers sprinting on the tracks and spectators cheering as one of their team members darted past them to pass the baton to another member, the air of excitement was palpable, in this event and all others.

The Sports meet was conducted well and amazingly harmonised with students stepping out in the sun to cheer team members and . The frenzy of and deafening applauds for the victors would be cherished for years.


 The Opening Mile victors were Bhupendra Nagar, Aman Sharma, Chitrangda Singh, Ayesha Singh. They set new records and added glory to their respective teams. Team Nile Tamers led by Shubhankar Mishra and Kritika Goyal won the Gully Cricket tournament.

Team Dragon’s Descent led by Sampath Gorji and Bhumika Varshney won the 4X50m Reverse Relay race.

 At the close of day one, Team Nile Tamers were leading with total 250 points and Team Shakti and Shaivya, led by Chitrangada Singh and Raj Krishna was at second position with 200 points.

 These two teams have an edge over others, now, for the winning the prestigious House Trophy. With many more events to follow, it’s anybody’s game. The competition and fun factor shall be on the rise.
