Retd. Justice BG Kolse, of Mumbai High Court, is humane and socially aware. He resigned from judgeship, in 1990, to dedicate himself to social causes. He will inaugurate the three day long all India conference of AIKMS, at Allahabad, on April 3. Here’s his profile.
The All India Conference of All India Kisan Mazdoor Sangh (AIKMS), from April 2 to 4, shall be inaugurated, Retd. Justice BG Kolse Patil of Mumbai High Court, in the Mandapam Hall, Allahabad, at 10 am, on April 3, informed the national secretary Ashish Mital, vide a press release.
Justice Patil is a famous social crusader from Maharashtra. After schooling in Ahmadnagar he did his law from Law College, Pune. He specialises in Criminal Law. He served as government counsel and public prosecutor in Pune, from 1980 to 1985, and thereafter, till 1990, as a judge of the Mumbai HC. He became renowned for his pro labour and fair judgments in service matters and he resigned in 1990 to serve full time for social causes, it was informed.
Justice Patil is a leader of the ‘Lok Shasan Andolan’, based in Pune, which opposes SEZs and destruction of environment. He is active against DOW Chemical’s (Union Carbide) activities. He was earlier social activity was against Enron. He was a leader of the huge movement against Mukesh Ambani’s SEZ for which he was forcefully acquiring 10,000 hectares of land in Raigad district. He won this movement against the big corporate and the government, the release added.
Justice Patil is presently a leader of the movement of Jaitapur farmers against the establishment of a Nuclear Plant there. In this movement he violated ban orders and was also detained.
He is a powerful voice against the unjust caste system and supports struggles against it. Along with Former Supreme Court judge, Justice PB Sawant, he has formed the ‘Desh Bachao Aghadi’, which gave a call for a “RSS free India” on Oct 4, in Shaniwar Wada, said the press release.
In 2006, Justice Patil investigated the dalit killings in Khairlanji. He also submitted a report for the rehabilitation of displaced persons in Manibeli, by Sardar Sarowar Project. In February 2007 he investigated the Nanded blast of Gujarat and compared it to Samjhauta Express blasts indicating its links to RSS-BJP, it was stated in the release.
Justice Patil resides in Pune and travels tirelessly throughout the country to support progressive peoples’ movements, it was informed.
