It was a pleasant surprise when Dr. Lenin Raghuvanshi and two others were decorated with honours in Remschied, Germany. Here’s a report.

There were three surprise honours that were conferred to Ruby Ray, Pandit Vikash Maharaj and Dr. Lenin Raghuvanshi, at city hall of Remschied, Germany, on occasion of the 50th anniversary of Indo-German Society, affiliate Remschied.

The native Indian Ruby Ray cooks splendidly and sings melodiously. The ceremony began with a song-prayer. It enchanted one and all. Ray had issued an Indian cookbook ten years back and had held cooking classes, regularly.

The second certificate of honor was conferred to Pandit Vikash Maharaj, the sarod maestro. Sarod is the Persian word for music, the name of the string instrument in the India has been derived from it. The instrument is covered with goatskin mahogany body with 25 fretless metal strings.

Vikash Maharaj was with his sons Vishal, Abhishek and Prabhash in the city. They presented a trio musical recital the next day.

The third honor was presented to Dr. Lenin Raghuvanshi, the founder of the Peoples’ Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR), Varanasi, in absentia. He had visited Remscheid, in May 2015, and had received a delegation of Helma Ritscher and young Remscheidern, earlier this year, in February 2015. A video message of Dr. Raghuvanshi was telecast. All the speakers praised the work of PVCHR.

Helma Ritscher, Chairperson, Indo-German Society of Reimschied said that she was present at the anniversary celebration, in February this year in the Ganges town of Varanasi, where the diligent partner Dr. Raghuvanshi had organised a celebration and had published a brochure.

Present in the program were Dr. Hans-Georg Wieck, former German Ambassador in New Delhi and Honorary chairperson of the Indo-German Society, Germany, Soni Dahiya, Consulate General of India in Frankfurt, Burkhard Mast-Weisz, Lord Mayor of Remscheid, Frank Dehnke, CEO of Stadtsparkasse, Reinhard Ulbrich, former chairperson, Indo-German Society Remscheid and Helma Ritscher, Chairperson, Indo-German Society Remscheid.
